A What I love about you book, written by you

Fifty things you love about them, one per page, in your own words, with your people illustrated on the cover. Like a fill-in journal that arrives finished: we help with the writing, you approve every word, and they get a book to keep.

A fill-in journal, or a finished book?

Most What I love about you books are fill-in journals: a page of prompts like “I love the way you…” with a line to finish in your own handwriting. They're lovely and they're inexpensive. They're also easy to start and hard to finish, and a half-filled journal is a tricky thing to wrap.

Ours works the other way round. You answer questions about the person, our writing assistant drafts things you love about them from your answers, and you keep, change or rewrite every one. Each gets a page of its own, with your people illustrated through the book.

If you'd rather write by hand, a journal is the right gift, and the starters below will help you fill it. If you want it finished, specific and looking like the two of you, that's what we make.

Every page is about them
Fifty things you love about them, one per page, from how you met to the way they make tea. No printed prompts, no blank lines.
It looks like you
The two of you, or your family, illustrated on the cover and through the book, in the style you choose.
No half-finished pages
We help with the writing, so you get to all fifty even if you're not a writer. Nothing goes in that you haven't approved.
Their name on the cover
For a mom, the cover reads What I Love About You, Mum. For a partner it's Reasons I Love You, and there are covers for dads, best friends and grandparents.

What to write in a What I love about you book

Whether you're filling in a journal or making ours, these get you past the blank page. Finish each one with a real moment, not an adjective.

  • I love the way you…
  • I love that you always…
  • I love it when you…
  • I love remembering the time we…
  • I love that you still…
  • I love watching you…
  • I love that you taught me…
  • I love the sound of your laugh when…
  • I love who I am with you, because…
  • I love that you never…
  • I love what you do when nobody's watching:
  • I love that you're the person who…
  • I love the little things, like…
  • I love that one day we'll…

For a partner

  • “I love that you warm up my side of the bed and then pretend you were just lying there.”
  • “I love remembering the night we missed the last train and walked home in the rain, laughing the whole way.”

For Mom

  • “I love that you still text to check I got home safe, even though I should be the one checking on you.”
  • “I love that you taught me your Sunday gravy and still won't tell me the secret ingredient.”

For Dad

  • “I love that you clap when the plane lands, every single time.”
  • “I love that you let go of the bike before you told me you had.”

For a best friend

  • “I love that you answer the phone with the end of a story we started three days ago.”
  • “I love that you've never once made me feel silly for crying at a commercial.”

Questions people ask

More ideas: what's inside our reasons book, deep reasons why I love you and gifts for someone who has everything.

What is a What I love about you book?+

A small book of the things you love about someone, usually one per page. Some are fill-in journals you finish by hand. Ours arrives finished: fifty things you love about them, written from your memories with our help, with your people illustrated on the cover.

What do you write in a What I love about you book?+

Specific moments rather than adjectives: the way they make tea, the time you got lost on vacation, what they did on your worst day. Start with "I love the way you…" or "I love remembering when we…" and finish with something only you would know.

How many things should I put in it?+

Fifty works well. It's enough for how you met, the everyday, the funny moments, the hard times and what's ahead, and few enough that every one can be specific. Ours holds fifty, one per page. Our reasons why I love you book ideas show how to plan them.

Can I make one for my mom, dad or best friend?+

Yes. What I Love About You, Mum is made for moms, and there are books for Dad, best friends, grandparents and partners. The questions change to suit who it's for.

Do I have to write it all myself?+

The memories come from you. You answer questions about the person, our writing assistant drafts the fifty from your answers, and you edit, replace or rewrite any of them. Nothing goes in the book that you haven't approved.

How much does it cost?+

The digital book is $12 (£9), the softcover $29 (£22) and the hardcover $49 (£39). Printed books include the digital book. Ordering is open: make your book, read every page, then order the digital book or a printed copy.
